My Introduction

I first started actually watching Amphibia around August of 2021. Previously, I had only seen “Grubhog Day” (ep 11a) and “Lily Pad Thai” (ep 9a) on some of the rare occasions I could sit down and catch some Saturday morning cartoons on cable. At that point, all I knew about it was that there was a girl with a bunch of frogs and nothing else. Later on, one of my best friends told me I should watch it because I would like it. Initially, I wasn’t going to watch it (I don’t often watch recommendations) until she did the equivalent of waving a toy in front of a toddler and told me that there were gay people in it. (She did the same thing to get me to watch TOH so clearly it works pretty well.) I was still pretty skeptical at first but ended up loving it! Amphibia is one of the shows that defined my freshman year and I am so happy to have been able to watch it to the end and participate with other fans online.

Story

To begin, know that I am incredibly partial to stories with overarching plots instead of episodic adventures. While Amphibia has a good number of these mini-adventures (or filler episodes), they were very enjoyable. It felt like each filler episode had something to add about each character or the world of Amphibia which made it feel rewarding to see these additions come into play later on in the story! I can't come up with any filler episode I disliked off of the top of my head. While you don’t need to watch the episodes that aren’t lore-centric to learn the main story, I would recommend watching them if you can. The main lore of Amphibia is very easy to grasp but also very interesting. I believe the show’s 3 season run was a great timeframe to pack the contents of the show into. All of the little details tie together nicely in the end for a really satisfying ending. I enjoy rewatching the show sometimes to catch some details I may not have noticed previously.
